Baboon
Cool Facts: Baboons are highly social and intelligent primates. On average, their troops contain 20 or so individuals but congregations across the savanna can range in numbers of up to 1,000! It is the role of the adult males, who can weigh twice as much as the females, to protect the perimeter of the troop while on the move from their main predator, the leopard. Baboons have many facial expressions, showing lots of different emotions, one of which is their yawn; this does not mean that they are tired, but instead shows how long and large their canine teeth are, and is a definite threat display to others. They have an omnivorous diet made up of grasses, fruits, seeds, eggs, amphibians, and small mammals.
Habitat: Baboons are found throughout several countries in Central and South Africa in savannas, rocky outcroppings and sparse woodlands.
Threats: Habitat conversion for farming and some poaching.
