Gibbon
Cool Facts: Gibbons are not monkeys, but actually the smallest of the apes. They are well known for their agility throughout the treetops, moving by “brachiation”, or hand-over-hand motions. This agility allows them to escape their primary predator, the leopard, moving at speeds quicker than the fastest Olympic runner! Gibbons live in mating pairs with their young, using their songs to strengthen family relationships and to separate other family units from their own.
Habitat: Gibbons live in the rainforest, high up in the tree canopy, throughout several countries in South East Asia.
Threats: Habitat conversion for agricultural use (farming) and habitat loss due to illegal logging. They are also affected by poaching and being captured for the pet trade.
